IP verification should be possible with IPv4, IPv6 and whatever comes next as long as it has an identifier that can withstand string comparison.

If more clarification is necessary, we'll edit this document.

TODO: Careful of shared hosting

Shared hosting is a chink in the armor of IP verification. The objective is to ensure that the user's provider really sent a request, and to do it we use the pieces of data we're sure of, the IP address and the provider's URL, to check that the request is valid. But shared hosting can mean that several different users can send data from the same IP address. For cases like this, the provider needs to be able to specify a field to force the receiving provider to check back with the provider that a request is actually being sent.
