A provider is the website that supports the user's actions on the Socknet. The provider gives the user a Provider URL which services and other providers discover on the user's OpenID page.

The Provider URL links to the provider's system.

Any website can be a provider. It only has to be accessible to the Internet and comply with the Socknet specification.
