FOAF, which stands for Friend of a Friend, is a simple system for identifying resources and friendships. It should be leveraged whenever available. IE, it should be used to automatically find people that users may like to be friends with and data that may describe them.
User Data has an optional foaf field to point at a FOAF document generated by the Socknet provider.
Considerations
The FOAF is only reliable when used correctly. For example, a FOAF file describes a one-way connection from one person to another. It would be inappropriate to assume that the connection is reciprocated.
